Bryce Ruthven’s motives for going on Married At First Sight were repeatedly questioned during his time on the show.

And on Tuesday, the 31-year-old was caught paying to promote his own sponsored posts in an attempt to boost his online social media profile.

Uploading a loved-up photo gazing into Melissa’s eyes during sunset, Bryce wrote:’ There are brighter days ahead.. support each other through Lockdown 4.0.’

Melissa was quick to comment underneath his post, writing: ‘Lockdown isn’t so bad… having you around makes it so much better.’

Instagram allows users to boost the reach of their content for a paid fee in effort to maximise the engagement of a post.

And while Bryce may have had good intentions to promote his content amid Melbourne’s latest lockdown, his post angered fans who were able to see his content without having to follow him.

Meanwhile, a third chimed: ‘I would have paid to see him less.’

When approached for comment Bryce said: ‘We wanted to help spread a positive message during Lockdown 4.0 to our online followers.’

‘It wasn’t targeting people that don’t like us.’

It comes just days after the former radio host has admitted that he used the show for career opportunities, after he launched his hit podcast with his girlfriend and co-star Melissa Rawson.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Bryce said: ‘Obviously when you go on a show like MAFS you are not oblivious to the fact that you are going to get a profile of some kind.’

He added: ‘I knew that the show could be an opportunity to give me something else that other radio announcers might not have.

‘That was definitely a part of it, but everyone has their motives for going on the show. And anyone who says they don’t is kidding themselves.’
