    Married At First Sight’s Jake Edwards says three-week stint at a wellness retreat ‘saved his life’ as he shares candid post about depression battle

    Jake Edwards has revealed his recent stint at three-week stint at a wellness retreat ‘saved his life’. 

    In an Instagram post shared on Saturday, the former Married At First Sight star posed in two photos taken during his stay at the facility in country Victoria. 

    The 33-year-old wrote in the caption: ‘No phones. No TV. No radio. Just my thoughts and my ego. My time away was spent finding myself once again and dealing with my past and confronting my demons each and every day for four weeks.

    ‘I learnt that my false ego isn’t a very nice person and he acts out of fear, insecurity and pain. He only wants to recreate my past which for me, this has hurt people around me and it isn’t what the true inner soul of who Jake Edwards represents.

    ‘I spent time sitting and talking with monks who have been practicing inner peace and happiness for over 30 years and they changed my beliefs and views on my life.’ 

    He went on: ‘Spending time with only your thoughts is a scary proposition for anyone and for the first two weeks I cried every hour to release the emotion and pain I was experiencing. But overall, this experience changed and saved my life.

    ‘I walked away from the farm the old Jake Edwards but only better. There has been many changes in my life, both what I can and can’t control. I am so grateful for all my experiences and for everyone who has been in my life’.   

    He stepped away from the limelight following his very public split from Sophie Guidolin in May. 

    At the time, Jake’s management confirmed to Daily Mail Australia that the reality star wasn’t in rehab, but instead took time away in a wellness retreat.

    Jake announced he had stepped down from his position of CEO of his mental health charity Outside The Locker Room in an Instagram post on Thursday. 

    He wrote: ‘Six years ago, following the toughest period of my life, Outside the Locker Room was born through a desire to help others struggling with their mental health.’

    ‘Over that time I put together a program to educate and support young people which has now been delivered to over 400 sporting clubs and schools across Australia,’ he added.

    Jake went on to write that his time at the charity allowed him to ‘connect’ with others and tell his story in a bid to inspire them. 

    ‘It’s been a privilege I will be forever grateful for,’ he said, adding that OTLR needed ‘to find new leadership, with fresh and exciting ideas to take it into the future’. 

    Jake rose to fame on the 2021 season of Married At First Sight. He was married to Beck Zemek, but the pair bitterly split up before the reunion.
