Meghan Markle sparks social media storm after Netflix announcement – 'Meant to be free!'

Archewell Productions revealed on Wednesday it would be developing a new animated series created by the Duchess of Sussex. Named after the eponymous heroine, Pearl will explore a 12-year-old girl’s voyage of self-discovery. In a statement, Meghan said: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.”

She added she was thrilled to be making the series, which will “celebrate extraordinary women throughout history”.

The news ignited a social media storm, as fans rushed to give their take on the announcement.

One wrote: “#TheBench now #Pearl Meghan you make my heart go pump pump.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex signed a multiyear deal with the streaming giant Netflix in 2020.

As part of the deal, their production company will make exclusive content for Netflix, which will include documentaries, docu-series, feature films, scripted shows and children’s programming.
