Meghan Markle's baby due date is 'perfect excuse' for Harry to skip reunion with William

The Duke of Sussex has not confirmed whether he will be flying back to the UK for the unveiling of a statue of his late mother, Princess Diana. The statue will be revealed at Kensington Palace on July 1 to mark what would have been her 60th birthday.

However, the event could clash with Meghan’s due date in the “summertime”.

The Duchess of Sussex revealed to Oprah Winfrey in March the couple are expecting a girl.

Now, royal commentator Kinsey Schofield said Harry would avoid a reunion with his family to be with his wife.

Ms Schofield said: “I imagine that Prince Harry is relieved that Meghan’s due date is so close to the event because it is the perfect excuse for the prince to sit this one out and stay at home in the States.

“I suspect that the child will be born around the time of the unveiling and that they will name the baby girl Diana.

“We’ve learned since Prince Philip’s funeral that there was little to no reconciliation between the princes.

“It would be catastrophically unfair for Prince Harry to return to the UK for Princess Diana’s statue unveiling and to fight behind closed doors with Prince William about Meghan Markle.

“This event needs to be about their mother and it needs to honour their mother.”

She continued: “If Prince Harry is ready to eat crow then I encourage him to pack his bags and return to the UK to celebrate his mother’s legacy.

“If he’s unable to do that, then perhaps he should stay home.”

Ms Scholfield added how if Harry misses the event, he may do something “to try to match Kensington Palace’s Diana event”.

She said: “I think releasing a photo of Prince Harry and his mother is appropriate, or releasing a pre-recorded speech or video that he collaborates with the Palace on, but the constant attempt to divert attention from the royals is getting exhausting and seems quite petty for two people who told Oprah Winfrey that they just wanted to ‘move on’.”

Russell Myers, the Mirror’s Royal Editor, said both Harry and Meghan “really want to be there” for the unveiling of the statue.

He told ITV’s Lorraine this week: “The things I’m being told is they still really want to be there, both of them.

“Certainly, William and Kate will be there.

“But whether Harry can fly over there because the baby is imminently due this summer.

“It will certainly be in the next couple of weeks.”

Harry reunited with his brother and father, Prince Charles, at the funeral of the Duke of Edinburgh in April.

The royal siblings were seen speaking to each other on camera following the funeral at Windsor Castle.

Harry was not pictured cordially engaging with his father, who led the solemn procession of Philip’s coffin to the chapel.

Meghan was unable to attend to due being heavily pregnant at the time of the funeral.

The reunion came weeks after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made several explosive claims to Oprah Winfrey in March.

The couple claimed there were conversations about the colour of Archie’s skin before he was born.

The interview sparked a royal crisis and the hashtag #AbolishtheMonarchy started trending on Twitter.
