The Diwali dinner included South Asian women in media and entertainment to celebrate their culture and community as they discuss the power of their voice in the industry.

Gushing about the event, Mindy said: ‘I feel so honored to be asked by Meena Harris [Phenomenal] and Deepica Mutyala [Live Tinted] who are such moguls and doing so many incredible things to support and empower Women of Color, especially South Asian Women, to host this Diwali dinner.

‘This is the first year that there has been enough of us [South Asian women in the media and entertainment industry] that we could do something like this.

‘For the longest time, I didn’t understand what my Hinduism meant to me and didn’t feel that I was rewarded for exploring it.

‘Now I am prouder than ever for my roots and identity, and I am so excited at the idea that there is going to be a whole generation of people growing up where seeing women like us in the media will be the norm.’

Diwali is a festival of lights and one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs and some Buddhists in India.

People celebrate Diwali – which spans over five days and symbolizes the spiritual ‘victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance’ – by lighting little earthen oil lamps to mark the victory of light over darkness.
