A 10-year-old girl repeatedly called 911 as a gunman roamed killing children and staff at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. Her calls came as hundreds of law enforcement officials gathered outside the school but did not enter her classroom, according to a CNN report.
“Please hurry. There is a lot of dead bodies,” Khloie Torres told a police dispatcher as Salvador Rolando Ramos massacred her classmates.
Khloie first made the call at 12.10pm, 30 minutes after Ramos entered the building. It was another 40 minutes before police entered the classroom she was hiding in to finally challenge the shooter.
Before they came, Salvador Rolando Ramos roamed classrooms 112 and 111, slaughtering children. By the time he was shot dead by police 18 children and one teacher had been killed. Another child and teacher later died of their injuries.
Throughout, Khloie was on the phone with police. She made multiple calls to 911. At one point she said: “Please get help. I don’t wanna die. My teacher is dead. Oh my God.”
She said she used her dead teacher’s phone as it was similar to her father’s and she was able to make emergency calls without unlocking the device.
The dispatcher urged her to keep quiet and to encourage her classmates to do the same. She responded: “I’m telling everyone to be quiet but nobody is listening to me.”
“I understand what to do in these situations. My dad taught me when I was a little girl. Send help,” the little girl added.
Eventually off-duty Border Patrol Agents bypassed other officers and entered her classroom.
The shooter burst out of the closet he was hiding in shooting at the cops, but Ramos was shot dead.
Thankfully, Kholie survived the atrocity – many of her classmates did not. Her father, Ruben Torres, praised her actions saying: “That day, the things that she did were absolutely incredible.”

However, he slammed law enforcement’s response saying: “None of them had courage that day.”
Khloie’s mother told CNN: “All the kids didn’t have backup in there. Nobody had armour in there. They went through a lot, and they had absolutely no help from police.”
The slow response to an active shooter situation at an Elementary School has raised questions about why officers did not enter the school earlier.
The Texas Department of Public Safety said that before tactical units arrived, none of the at least 19 officers inside the school but outside of the classroom made an effort to enter. Several investigations into the situation remain ongoing.

In a statement, the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District wrote: “Recent developments have uncovered additional concerns with department operations.
“The District has made the decision to suspend all activities of the Uvalde CISD Police Department for a period of time.
“Officers currently employed will fill other roles in the district.”
The school district has asked for additional officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety to provide security at the school.
