Newcastle United fans are brimming with excitement as a prospective £300million Saudi-led takeover, which fell through last year, looks to be back up and running after a dispute with Qatar-based beIN Sports was resolved. Newfound riches are likely to attract new players, and although the Premier League’s biggest stars may be hesitant to head for Tyneside straight away, the Magpies could target a host of other players to revamp their current squad. Express Sport looks at how they could line up with five new signings if their takeover goes through.
Goalkeeper – Dubravka
Injuries started to wreak havoc on Martin Dubravka’s Newcastle career just a couple of years after he made the loan switch from Sparta Prague permanent in 2018.
Virtually ever-present until 2020, he sustained a foot injury last season which restricted him to just a handful of appearances.
Another foot injury has also sidelined him this campaign, and although Karl Darlow has shown flashes of his capability in Dubravka’s absence, the Slovakian has proven himself as a more than capable stopper who could do a job for the Magpies as they climb the table.

Midfield – Almiron, Willock, Gallagher, Saint-Maximin
Both arriving as prominent signings in recent windows, both Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have shown enough promise to keep their spots in Newcastle’s side.
Signings in other areas would also allow the Frenchman to return to his natural position out wide after filling in through the middle so far this campaign.
Joe Willock is yet to hit the ground running since making his loan switch permanent during the summer, although his remarkable scoring run at the end of last season is a sign of his quality.
Conor Gallagher could be the headline addition, however. The Chelsea loanee is currently making a big impression at Crystal Palace, and if there is no clear route into the first team at Stamford Bridge, the Magpies could rekindle this summer’s interest and make their move.
Attack – Wilson, Armstrong
So far this campaign, Saint-Maximin has carried the goals burden admirably as Callum Wilson sits out with a thigh injury, although Newcastle still sit in the bottom three.
His return will be welcomed, and having established himself as a prolific goal-scorer in the topflight when fit, he is likely to have a spot with the Magpies for as long as he wants.
Adam Armstrong could be a candidate to play alongside him, having left Newcastle three years ago after making his way through the youth ranks.
His goal-laden spell at Blackburn Rovers prompted Southampton into a summer move, and if he puts together an impressive campaign then Newcastle could certainly do worse than to try and orchestrate a reunion with their homegrown talent.
