Nicola Sturgeon refuses to face nuclear power probe as she flees reporter

Nicola Sturgeon told GB News’ Political Correspondent Tom Harwood that she could not answer his questions on nuclear energy “because it was Remembrance Day”. The bizarre encounter at COP26 saw Scotland’s First Minister flee the reporter as he asked her about nuclear energy. Despite his persistent questioning, Mr Harwood was “brushed away” by the SNP leader’s security team.

He noted: “One person I tried to speak to yesterday was Nicola Sturgeon.

“However she wasn’t having much of it.

“Despite giving interviews to other channels, Sturgeon said she couldn’t answer my simple question about nuclear power because it was Remembrance Day.”

In the footage of the encounter, Mr Harwood asks: “I’m just wondering if you are considering lifting your ban on nuclear power?”

Ms Sturgeon responds by mentioning the two-minute silence.

She then continues to walk away from Mr Harwood.

The GB News reporter fired back: “Yes, but before then, why does the Scottish government ban nuclear power?”

He told GB News viewers: “Sadly I was brushed away by her security team there.

Ms Sturgeon’s party has a long-standing opposition to the development of any new nuclear power plants north of the border.

Holyrood has already passed legislation committing Scotland to achieve net-zero by 2045 – five years ahead of the UK Government’s schedule.

Mr Harwood has endured a difficult time at COP26 after he sparked a backlash on social media for claiming he was refused entry to a Glasgow bar “due to his accent”.

After being refused entry to the Firewater nightclub, he tweeted: “Bouncer rejected me from a bar, from what I – and my Glaswegian friends – can make out, seemingly solely because of my accent.

“Have to say, it’s the most hostile Glasgow has felt in a full week. Nationalism is a hell of a drug.”
