Ole Gunnar Solskjaer avoiding Manchester United sack may depend on four players

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been linked with the exit door at Old Trafford after some poor results. His big money spending in the summer may have impacted that decision, and the Norwegian will rely on four players to drag him out of the mire. Express Sport takes a look at who they are.

    Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo’s signing was much heralded as one of the best signings of the transfer window given how quickly his move from Juventus transpired.

It was thought that United would lose out to rivals Manchester City for the Portuguese star, but that was put to bed in a swift move by United.

Having started on fire, Ronaldo looked destined for big things upon his return to Old Trafford, but the goals have dried up in recent matches.

And Solskjaer will need Ronaldo to show his worth if he is to keep his job due to the expectations placed on the Portuguese superstar.

    Harry Maguire

Solskjaer needs more from his most-expensive signing with United shipping four goals at the weekend.

Maguire cost £80m in the summer of 2019, and has had a mixed time at Old Trafford.

He finished the end of last season extremely well, but has flattered to deceive this season – especially in Saturday’s disappointing 4-2 loss at Leicester.

As captain of the Red Devils, Maguire must stand up and be counted if he is to show his worth as the world’s most expensive defender.

    Mason Greenwood

Greenwood is different from the three as he hasn’t been underwhelming this season – quite the opposite.

After hitting the ground running with 29 goals in 101 games in his first two seasons as a regular in United’s squad, this campaign the youngster is shining brighter than ever with four goals in 10 games.

With Sancho misfiring, Rashford only just returning back from injury and Dan James being sold, Greenwood has made the right-flank his comfort zone and is one of the first names on the United team at this moment in time.

And Solskjaer will need him to keep his form up if he is to continue in his job as manager.
