Philippines earthquake: Island on alert as South China Sea rocked by strong quake

    The shake caused tremors just 31 km south of Balayan, to the west of the island, the German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reports.

    It happened at an intermediate depth of 130 km beneath the epicentre at 4.48am local time (9.48pm GMT).
