The birthday celebrations come after Phoebe admitted that reading the script for The Colour Room made her feel ‘proud to be a woman.’

The actress also revealed and that her own northern background is why she wanted to take on the role of Clarice Cliff in the film.

The movie – which was released on Friday – follows the life of the 1920s and 30s ceramic artist who is credited with revolutionising the workplace for women.

Asked how she felt when she first read the script for The Colour Room, Phoebe confessed: ‘I guess proud to be a woman. I thought this story was amazing and it’s a really heart warming story as well. Some parts of it are sad, but mostly it’s joyful.’

On why she wanted to be part of the film, the star explained: ‘The first reason was going back to my northern roots and following a real working class story of a northern woman.

‘That’s my background. So it just felt like a story that I wanted to tell, and had connections to.

‘Also, my dad has a few of her pieces. So I knew her work quite well, and I just found the story behind it so fascinating.

‘I don’t think there are enough stories that are told about someone who really did come from nothing. You know, people that really break the mould.’
