Rescue tender water plants
Place tender plants in trays of deep mud or damp sand, or even in a bucket of water.
Remove any weeds and excess oxygenating plants this month.
Remove any additional features
Features such as pumps, fountains and lighting systems, may break due to frosts over the winter.
Whilst you can keep them in place over the summer you will need to remove them by the time the cold weather sets in.
This should be done at the latest by September, remember to clean and store them over the winter in a dry place so they can be used again next spring.

As Autumn draws in you should place next netting over small ponds to stop the Autumn leaves from falling in.
Too many leaves in your pond could prevent water plants from accessing essential sunlight.
Trying to scoop out fallen leaves can be a chore so it is best to put netting across your pond early ready for the Autumn fall.
One key thing to note when removing water plants from ponds is to leave them on the side of the pond for 38 hours before composting them.
This will allow any wildlife trapped in them, time to slip back into the pond.
