The head of Monaco’s Royal Family will be among other royals and world leaders at the COP26 event in Glasgow starting November 1. Members of the British Royal Family including Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall will also be in attendance.

Speaking to PEOPLE magazine, Prince Albert revealed his six-year-old twins, Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella, will accompany him to Scotland.

The children will join the 63-year-old while he attends engagements at the UN Climate Change Conference.

The family’s trip to the UK comes ahead of Princess Charlene’s return to Monaco, which is expected to be later in November.

Princess Charlene of Monaco has had a long-term illness that has kept her separate from her family.

The 43-year-old Zimbabwe-born princess has been suffering from a severe ear, nose and throat infection while in South Africa.

Her husband had admitted that her original visit to the region was supposed to be “a weeklong, 10-day maximum stay”, but the illness has prevented her from flying back home.

In reference to the fact that their two children will accompany him in Scotland, Prince Albert told PEOPLE magazine: “They’re on holiday [from school]. I didn’t want to leave them alone in Monaco.

“This way, they will be with me before [Princess] Charlene comes back.”

The royal added that the twins Jacques and Gabriella, who turn seven on 10 December, will “have their own agenda” during their father’s four-day trip to the conference.

“If it’s a trip, that has an official side to it, but also [they’ll need] a private side and things to discover they can find it fun and amusing.”

The sovereign made the comments about his children after speaking about his wife Princess Charlene’s imminent return to Monaco.

The Princess has been grounded in South Africa since May and has been recovering after undergoing a “final” operation earlier this month.

In a statement to PEOPLE, Albert revealed that he hopes to be able to travel with Charlene to Dubai as part of a planned royal visit to Dubai’s World Expo on 13 November.

The royal added that there is a possibility this might not happen, continuing: “We’ll make that decision at the last minute.”

Previously, he stated that he expected Charlene to return to Monaco in time for the country’s National Day, which is on 19 November.

Earlier this month, she published a black-and-white picture featuring her standing alongside Misuzulu kaZwelithini, the head of the Zulu Royal Family her Instagram page.

The image sparked concern among some of the Monegasque royal fans, with many saying “she is really not doing well” while others claimed the royal looked sad.

In the photo, she is seen looking straight into the camera, while wrapped up in a jumper with her hands clasped in front of her.

The image was accompanied by a caption, reading: “Thank you for your kindness and support”.
