The Duke of Cambridge is back to his royal engagements after his summer break. He was notably seen enjoying holidays in Sicily with Kate and their children. As part of Emergency Service Day, an operation dedicated to the NHS and emergency services who work 24/7 all year, Prince William headed to the Dockhead fire station in South East London to meet emergency professionals and some of the families they helped.
The 39-year-old was pictured poignantly listening to little Lila, who was successfully resuscitated by ambulance technician Charlotte Speers, along with firefighters Marc Rustage and James Knight while off-duty.
Last March, Lila Page collapsed in The Railway pub in Rainham where she was with her mom Tracy. Fortunately, after the pub manager raised the alarm calling for someone to phone an ambulance, Charlotte immediately reacted. She realised the little unconscious girl was not breathing and started giving her CPR.
Firefighters Marc and James, also off-duty, rushed to the scene and fetched a defibrillator — which turned out was not required, while helping out Charlotte who had just had a baby at the time.
“I had never done a paediatric resus before and having no equipment as well, I was feeling rather overwhelmed,” said Speers to Kent Online.
“Having the support of Marc and James made the situation easier. They should be very proud of everything they did.”
The trio kept Lila alive while waiting for the paramedics to arrive and the girl underwent surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital for a heart condition no one knew she had.
Lila’s mum Tracey said: “We were honoured to be invited to meet the Duke and celebrate the well-deserved recognition of our heroes.

“Words could never express how grateful we are that they saved our daughter’s life. Seeing my daughter’s lifeless body lying there was the worst experience of my life.
“I will never forget the help that Charlie, Marc, and James gave while off duty, nor will I ever forget Charlie grabbing my hand, placing it on Lila’s chest and say, ‘she’s breathing’.”
Ann Millington, chief executive of Kent Fire and Rescue Service said: “Every day I am incredibly proud of the lifesaving work of our crews alongside their other blue light colleagues.”
“On duty or off duty, my colleagues will always use their skills and compassion to help others – like in the case of little Lila. I’m thrilled she has made an excellent recovery.”

The Prince met with Lila and many others like Ravi, rescued from the sea, or 6-year-old Noura, saved by the police after receiving appalling injuries.
