Patrick Harvie and Lorna Slater were pictured in a luxury bar in Edinburgh along with fellow Greens MSP Ross Greer and another individual. The group meeting was in breach of Scotland’s lockdown rules where only three households can meet inside.

The picture, seen by Express.co.uk, was taken on Tuesday at Browns Bar in Edinburgh, located just yards away from the First Minister’s official residence at Bute House.

The party leaders were in the pub on the night First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said a meeting with Greens leaders took place on a possible formal cooperation agreement with the SNP.

Earlier today, the First Minister announced she was seeking to take discussions with the Greens to the next stage, which could result in a formal co-operation agreement.

Ms Sturgeon even said Green MSPs could become ministers in the Scottish Government, in a move she hopes would be “potentially groundbreaking”.

In a statement, Mr Havie and Ms Slater, said: “We attended a work-related meeting in a venue in central Edinburgh on Tuesday evening, where the three-household limit was not upheld.

“This was an honest mistake, we’re kicking ourselves and we apologise unreservedly.”

Currently, under Scotland’s COVID-19 restrictions in Level 2 areas, only three households are allowed to be together in an indoor hospitality setting.

Under Level 3 restrictions, six people from two households are able to meet in indoor public places which include pubs and restaurants.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We are aware of a photograph posted on social media which will be assessed by officers.”

In December, Nicola Sturgeon apologised for breaching Covid rules by taking her face mask off while standing at a pub wake.
