A woman from the Question Time audience in Horsham, West Sussex has been left fuming by the decision to hold the football world cup in Qatar. Describing herself as a queer woman she criticised the decision of Premier League players to play in a tournament in a country where homosexuality is banned.

She added that by going to play in Qatar players from England and Wales, the only British national teams to qualify. will “take away” key British values.

She said: “As an avid football supporter I find myself actually torn with the World Cup.

“Quite clearly it’s going to be in a country that has astonishing views on human rights.

“And as a queer woman I will struggle to see players from the Premier League stand in that country.

Despite the fact that France are the defending champions, Paris and other French cities have refused to screen matches.

The Australian squad has released a video urging Qatar to change its laws on same sex relationships.

Last year The Guardian claimed that 6,500 migrant workers from India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka had died in Qatar since it won its World Cup bid in 2010.
