‘I started signing the checks’: Reba McEntire says taking charge of her finances and career after her divorce was ‘a huge, huge change for me’
Reba McEntire has spoken out about the difficult adjustments that she had to make after her painful divorce in 2015.
The 66-year-old country music star explained that she took charge of her career and finances following her split from her husband and manager Narvel Blackstock.
‘Things started going south with my marriage,’ Reba said during an appearance on the Apple Fitness+ Time to Walk experience as reported by People magazine.

‘Narvel Blackstock, my manager and husband at the time — we got a divorce, and the shocker of it all was, there were four people who were taking care of all my business,’ she continued.
‘I had my production manager who left, I had my CEO who left, my manager and husband, and my father had died. So four men who were rock and pillars of my world were gone.’
The Does He Love You songstress went on to say, ‘I started taking over signing the checks and then I started realizing how much water cost, and the electric bill, and all the things that was going on in my life.’

‘I made the money, I brought it home. So it was a huge, huge change for me.’
McEntire’s father Clark passed away in October 2014 at the age of 86 after a long illness. In August 2015, Reba shocked fans when she announced that she and Blackstock had separated after 26 years of marriage.
The Reba actress said that her strong faith helped her overcome the numerous challenges that she faced at the time.

‘Everything that I was dealing with privately, personally — I had to run it all through God,’ the singer said.
‘I had to say, “OK big boy, I can’t handle this. This is way over my pay grade — I don’t know what to do.”‘
‘And I would wait, and He would guide me. And so without my faith, I have no idea where I would be or my career would be, at this time today.’

During a 2016 interview with iHeartRadio station CMT Radio Live, Reba said, ‘The divorce was not my idea.’
‘I didn’t want it in any shape, form or fashion. So it was really hard to make the adjustment.’
McEntire went on to date photographer Anthony “Skeeter” Lasuzzo from 2017 to 2019. She is currently dating Better Call Saul actor Rex Linn.
