Rightmove shares five steps buyers should take to ensure they’re in ‘best position to buy’

The housing market remains incredibly busy with the total value of homes sold in the UK expected to reach a whopping £461billion this year, according to Zoopla. The site also predicted that the property market was on course to be the busiest for 14 years. So what can buyers do to be in the “best position” to purchase a property?

The UK’s largest property site, Rightmove, said if you’re looking to buy a home you need to “be ready to move fast”.

The property site shared five steps you can do now before you find your perfect home “to make sure you’re in the best position to buy”.

    1. Search on Rightmove

Looking on Rightmove means you will be looking at ore homes for sale at any time than any other property site in the UK.

If you’re looking in a specific location, this also means you can stay on top of what is available.

    3. Apply for a mortgage in principle

This may sound a little unusual, especially if you haven’t found a home yet, but if you’re ready to buy having a mortgage agreed in principle will save you time later on down the line.

When you find a property and want to make an offer, your estate agent will want to know if you have a mortgage in principle.

They will also want to know if you have proof of funds ready for a deposit.

Having both of these ready to go will put you in a great position as a buyer.

Make sure you’re aware of your own budget too, especially with the stamp duty holiday threshold changes coming in at the end of June.

    4. Get a solicitor

You will need to have a solicitor to help you with conveyancing and other paperwork.

If you don’t have one ready to go, this could slow down the process and make you look like a less serious buyer to an estate agent.

Solicitors are very busy at the moment due to the busy market so you will want to find one as early as possible.

    5. If you need to sell your own home, instruct an estate agent

If you have your own home to sell, contact a local estate agent now to put it on Rightmove.

You will be in a stronger position to buy a property if you are in the process of selling or if you have accepted an offer.

Rightmove’s instant alerts will allow buyers to view your property straight away if it’s in their search criteria.
