Rita Ora breaks down in tears on The Voice as she reveals Tina Turner was an inspiration

Rita Ora was moved to tears during Tuesday’s episode of The Voice Australia.

The British pop star was awash in emotion after watching the performance of Rebecca O’Connor, a Tina Tuner impersonator from County Cork in Ireland.

Rebecca explained that growing up, she was ‘the only coloured girl in the village’ and seeing Tina on television empowered her.

‘I went, “Oh, my god! “Mum, she looks a bit like me!”‘ Rebecca recalled.

Rita soon began blubbering, revealing that she, too, grew up watching Tina, and took comfort in someone different, like her, being such a success.

The How We Do hitmaker was born in Kosovo to Albanian parents before moving to the United Kingdom as a toddler.

‘This touches me, right, because when I was growing up – I moved to the UK when I was one [year old] – and like you just said, I was not the normal looking girl in my neighborhood,’ Rita began.

‘As soon as I heard Tina – I am going to start crying – because for me, she is my biggest, biggest idol in the world for so many reasons,’ she went on.

‘Because her story is so inspiring. To gain that much success at her age – she didn’t really become a solo artist until her late 30s.

‘And she had all those problems and struggles, and I thought to myself, it’s never too late,’ Rita added, her voice breaking, and tears streaming down her face.

‘Thank goodness for artists like Tina, and I am only crying because she did that for me too. And she’s done that for so many other people,’ she continued.

The For You singer had to take a momentary break, admitting, ‘I can’t speak, I am so emotional’ before swiping tears off her face.

'I too found it really hard, I guess, growing up in this country, being who I am, and culturally...' Jess began, before Rita cut her off

She did it: 'Jess!' Rita cried out, interrupting and wiping her eyes, before appealing to Rebecca that she would be best suited to finding 'the right songs' to work on

‘I believe I can find the right songs too,’ Jess tried to argue, but Rebecca’s mind was made up – she went with Rita, who will now be her mentor.
