Royal Family LIVE: Prince William 'threw Harry out' – wanted to be separated from Meghan

Respected royal biographer Robert Lacey said that despite assumptions the Duke of Sussex sparked the split, the move was in fact initiated by the Duke of Cambridge who wanted to be separated from Meghan on a day to day basis. Mr Lacey, the author of Battle of Brothers, claimed William took action after a “furious confrontation” with his younger brother in October 2018 over allegations, denied by the Sussexes, that Meghan bullied royal staff.

The royal author said William “wanted Meghan removed … from the hitherto harmonious joint household that he and his brother had operated together for the best part of a decade”.

Writing in Battle of Brothers, serialised by The Times, Mr Lacey said: “When accounts of the rift started seeping out through the winter months that followed, it was generally assumed that the volatile Harry must have set the pace in the splitting up of the joint Kensington Palace household.

“He was the brother who visibly departed, stalking off to set up a new home in Windsor, with offices for himself and Meghan in Buckingham Palace.

“But the reverse was the case. It was William who made the decisive move.

“Following his furious confrontation with his younger brother in the autumn of 2018, the prince instructed Simon Case to start the process of dividing their two households immediately.

“William wished to be separated from Meghan on a day-to-day basis — and that meant being separated from his brother as well.”

“‘William,’ says a friend, ‘threw Harry out.'”

It was announced in March 2019 that the Sussexes were splitting from their joint Kensington Palace household with the Cambridges.

The Duchess of Cambridge is planning a “special” day to help her husband William celebrate his birthday, according to a royal expert.

Prince William will turn 39 on Monday June 21 and is expected to mark the occasion at Kensington Palace with his wife and three young children.

Royal biographer Katie Nicholl told OK! magazine: “Kate always makes birthdays and celebrations special for William and the children. She’s very much like her mother Carole in that respect.

“She’ll be aware that this year has been tough for William and will want both his birthday and Father’s Day to be special for him.”
