Royal Family use Meghan Markle's Duchess of Sussex title in birthday messages

Meghan Markle is 40 today and while she and Prince Harry, 36, quit the Royal Family and relocated to California last year, Queen Elizabeth II, 95, Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, Prince William, Prince Charles and Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, have all reached out to wish her happy birthday on Twitter.

Following their royal stepdown Harry and Meghan agreed to cease using their Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles in conjunction with their work but have broken their pledge in recent months by continuing to trade off their royal status.

Meghan published a children’s book under her Duchess of Sussex title and a recent press release announcing Harry’s up and coming memoir also referred to him as the Duke of Sussex.

Their apparent disregard for the Megxit agreement they made with the Queen has prompted some to call for them to be stripped of their HRH styles and titles altogether.

But on Wednesday the Firm seemed to put speculation this may happen to bed as senior members of the monarchy referred to Meghan as the Duchess of Sussex in their birthday messages.
