Meghan and Harry signed a multi-million pound deal with the music streaming site and released a standalone episode last Christmas. The Holiday Special featured personal anecdotes from a number of high-profile guests, including Sir Elton John, James Cordon and Naomi Osaka.
Their son Archie also made a surprise appearance at the end of the 34-minute episode.
But, the audio debut by Meghan and Harry left many underwhelmed, including royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams, who branded it “unsophisticated”.
The royal expert also claimed the couple used “woke language” and said it was not targeted at a UK audience.
He told Express.co.uk: “I think what they will be doing for Spotify will be in-depth interviews.
“The first episode wasn’t sophisticated and I didn’t think anything of it.
“It’s all very well talking about love conquering all, or words to that effect.
“It was in woke language and it was not aimed at the British market.”
Mr Fitzwilliams also noted the huge global reach of the Duke and Duchess, but suggested they may have undersold their abilities.
He added: “It was aimed at America and the certain international appeal that they have.
“That appeal is enormous, as well as the potential of using it.
“But I didn’t think the podcast was worthy of their talents. They didn’t have interviews.”
The podcast deal with Spotify is being created in partnership with Archewell audio – a branch of Meghan and Harry’s charitable foundation.
Spotify says the programme aims to produce content that “uplifts and entertains audiences around the world and features diverse perspectives and voices”.

“We were curious to hear what they’d reflect on when they had a moment to themselves, without navigating the sometimes awkward dance of a video chat, meaning, no one having to say, ‘Wait, you’re on mute,’ over and over again, which is probably one of the defining phrases of 2020.”
At the end of the podcast, their son Archie made an appearance on the microphone, with Harry telling his son: “You can speak into it.”
Meghan then asks the little tot “is it fun?”, to which he replies “fun!”.
