Prince Harry and Meghan: Taking titles may ‘backfire’ says Smith
The Duke of Sussex returned to the UK for his grandfather’s funeral earlier this year for the first time since his bombshell interview with Oprah about why he left the Royal Family to live in the US with wife Meghan Markle and son Harry. He was seen chatting to his brother William and his wife Kate outside of Windsor Castle after the service, and it was also reported he briefly held a meeting with the Queen and his father Prince Charles.
And now it has been revealed he also spoke to his uncle Prince Edward and his wife, Sophie, too, despite publicly saying he has a strained relationshipp with his family.
Speaking to The Telegraph Magazine, Edward and Sophie said “things have changed a bit” since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped back from their royal duties, but added they will “always be family”.
The Earl and Countess of Wessex also said they had a “lengthy chat” with Prince Harry following the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
Sophie said: “We are still a family no matter what happens, we always will be.”

Reflecting on their more prominent role in the monarchy, she said: “We’ve plodded along doing what we’re doing, hopefully doing it well. And then all of a sudden there’s a bit of a hiatus and things have changed a bit.
“Naturally, the media are looking for people to fill the so-called void.”
She added: “If people want to pay more attention to what we’re doing, then great.”
She said her children Lady Louise Windsor and James, Viscount Severn, “still keep expecting to see grandpa arrive in his green Land Rover” as the couple pledged to continue Philip’s work through the Duke of Edinburgh award.
The couple said the Queen had been “keeping busy” since her husband’s death, with Edward telling the magazine: “The job is not something you can walk away from, it just carries on relentlessly.”
Speaking about Philip’s funeral, Sophie said the service was “done beautifully”, adding: “Minimum fuss – it’s what he would have wanted.”
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shocked the world last year as they dramatically quit the Royal Family to seek a new independence life in the US.
They have recently started opening up about their struggles with being working royals, with Harry recently claiming his brother William and father Prince Charles were “trapped” within the Royal Family, but that he managed to leave.
Harry also opened up on feeling “trapped” within the Firm during his interview with Oprah in March, before adding he felt unable to get Meghan help when she felt suicidal.
He added he felt “compassion” for his brother William and father Prince Charles being unable to leave their roles, while he could.
Harry said: “My father and my brother, they are trapped.
“They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”
Harry also told Oprah that he felt let down by his father for cutting him off financially and that “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened” between them.
Harry also told Oprah in his new The Me You Can’t See programme that his family did not speak about Diana’s death and expected him to handle the press attention and mental distress that came with it.
He said: “My father used to say to me when I was younger, he used to say to both William and I, ‘Well it was like that for me so it’s going to be like that for you’.
“That doesn’t make sense. Just because you suffered doesn’t mean that your kids have to suffer, in fact quite the opposite – if you suffered, do everything you can to make sure that whatever negative experiences you had, that you can make it right for your kids.”
