‘What I will say, I hoped for more and I would have expected more. This gives me the freedom to be creative and do what I want to do. As a 40-year-old woman and mum, I’ve stood my ground.’

Discussing her husband’s support, Sarah Jayne added: ‘My husband has been amazing because like I say, the content hasn’t been any different. We’ve just put it on a financially better platform so why wouldn’t he be?’

Sarah Jayne reportedly earned a whopping £7,200 in just a week after joining the X-rated subscription service.

Elsewhere during the interview, the actress insisted the content she shares on OnlyFans is no different to the bikini snaps she previously shared on her Instagram.

The star also pointed out that she has done several glamour photoshoots in the past in connection with Hollyoaks, such as her appearances in the Hollyoaks Babes calendars.

She said: ‘The reason I’ve done so many of these glamorous shoots over the years is because of my involvement with the show.

‘The images on OnlyFans are in the same vein. I decided to put them on a different platform and keep my Instagram more family-friendly. I was shocked at the decision and the way that it’s gone.

‘I’m not doing anything different to what I’ve done on my Instagram account for the last four years back on the show. This is why I’m struggling to understand why it’s become such a big issue for them.

‘Obviously, OnlyFans is an over 18 platform, but that makes it a safer space if they’re worried about a younger audience seeing it.

‘It’s for your fans to follow you and see exclusive content. That content is just exclusive to the platform. There’s fitness people on there, musicians on there.’

Sarah Jayne said she has benefited financially since joining OnlyFans and sees the site as a way to ‘take back control’ of her image.

She said: ‘The thing about this for me was taking back control of my images and my content. There is obviously a financial element to that as well and why shouldn’t there be? It’s my images and I’m putting them together, why shouldn’t I make money from it?

‘The choice wasn’t to lose my job, I wanted to do both. My page had been up for a week before this came about.

‘To make this decision and take back control and own my body and what I do with it, and then I’m going to give the control back? That would have been hypocritcal of me.’

In a statement explaining Sarah Jayne’s exit from the show, a Hollyoaks representative told The Sun: ‘Hollyoaks is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers, who follow our cast very closely, both in the soap and outside of it.

‘We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.

‘We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans.

‘In the past four years since her return to the show her legacy character has been an integral part of some our most important storylines and we will be very sad to see her go.’

It comes as Sarah admitted to The Sun that Hollyoaks isn’t as well paid as people expect, saying: ‘There’s a huge misconception that people on TV shows earn huge amounts of money, it just isn’t the case.

‘People talk about massive six-figure salaries but the reality is that if your character isn’t in a big storyline for a while you can end up struggling some months.

‘I’ve definitely experienced that myself. There are periods I haven’t known how I was going to get through the next month.’

The mum-of-one recently revealed she’d joined OnlyFans and shared a lengthy Instagram post telling how she feels ’empowered and confident’ taking photos for the racy site.

Speaking to close friend Jaime Laing’s Private Parts podcast about her OnlyFans platform earlier this year, she said: ‘You can make upwards of like $100,000 a month if you’re doing it regularly and have followers.’
