Selma Blair’s courageous story of life after her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018 is the focus of the new documentary Introducing, Selma Blair.
And over the weekend the Cruel Intentions star was brought to tears by the applause following the premiere screening at the Sag Harbor Cinema on Saturday, October 9, in The Hamptons.
The actress, who underwent chemotherapy treatments the year after her MS diagnosis, resulting in the loss of her hair, also got emotional when she hosted a reception for the movie during the 2021 Hampton Film Festival at The Reform Club in nearby Amagansett, New York. REmotinal:

Decked out in a rose inspired Rodarte dress and black heels for the premiere in Sag Harbor, New York, Blair glowed under the spotlight of the red carpet event, alongside the film’s director Rachel Fleit.
Since people with MS face mobility challenges and an increase risk of falling, she walked with a cane, which she leaned on while striking a number of poses on the red carpet.
Having already received widespread critical acclaim since debuting at South by Southwest virtual event in March, the audience at the premiere confirmed the rave reviews by giving it, and Blair, a rousing round of applause.

She was brought to tears by the audience’s reaction, which the Michigan native acknowledged during a Q&A panel that was held afterwards.
‘I didn’t feel amazing a minute ago,’ she confessed, in a reference to her emotional reaction, adding, ‘I came in a little rough here right now, so thank you.’
Selma explained, ‘I also have pseudobulbar affect [involuntary laughing and crying due to a nervous system disorder], so I can’t stop crying. It’s better than the alternative. The other thing that happens with the pseudobulbar is just nastiness, so tears are better. I wish I could assemble myself more carefully in front of a crowd. It means so much.’
Wardrobe change: Blair changed into an off-the-shoulder gown for the reception party that included such guests as fashion designer Christian Siriano
Emotions running high: Journalist Keah Brown was also on hand for the party, which also included some emotional moments for Blair
After the screening, the Legally Blonde star would change into a more elegant, off-the-shoulder gown for the reception, which was billed as part of the 2021 Hampton Film Festival.
And again the emotions ran high as she and Fleit made the rounds chatting with guests that included fashion designer Christian Siriano, author and journalist Keah Brown and Broadway star Mickey Liddell.
Blair went public with her MS diagnosis in October 2018, after suffering for years with unexplained symptoms like falling, dropping things, and foggy memory.
She would go on to endure two months of grueling chemo treatments in the summer of 2019 that was followed by intense physical therapy.

Normally associated with cancer, chemotherapy can also be quite effective at killing cells that break down the nervous system, which can result in slowing down the disease of stopping it completely. But it does come with a physical cost that varies from patient to patient.
By September of 2019, the Michigan native talked about physical therapy as being ‘the beginning of my journey to healing’ and ‘the long road to getting where I want to be.’
All along the way, Blair has been giving her 2.5 million Instagram fans and followers brief updates on her condition and snippets of her life moving forward.
Now people can get an up-close look at her courageous journey in the new documentary, which debut in theaters October 15, in a limited release, before dropping on the Discovery+ streaming service October 21.
