She refused to return to the upcoming Sex And The City reboot amid an alleged feud with her former co-stars, but one person integral to the franchise has stood up for Kim Cattrall and her decision to part ways with the series.

Sex And The City author Candace Bushnell defended the actress, 65, choosing to leave the franchise.

‘I absolutely love Kim,’ Bushnell, 62, told the New York Post. ‘But it seems she wants to do other things, and she doesn’t feel like doing the show. Maybe she doesn’t want to be that character anymore. Maybe she doesn’t want to put the Spanx on!

‘In real life, those women are not those characters — they are the opposite,’ Bushnell continued. ‘Sarah Jessica Parker, she’s been married forever to the same guy. She’s got kids. I don’t know her very well, but she seems to be very family-oriented [in a way Carrie is not].’

Filming is currently underway on And Just Like That, a new incarnation of the Sex And The City which Kim has refused to participate in.

And while Bushnell had nothing to do with creating or writing the series, she intends to watch it.

She told the New York Post that she is not surprised that HBO is ‘going to exploit’ the show ‘as much as they can,’ but she hopes it’s a success because she gets ‘paid a little bit of money.’

The upcoming reboot will see key players Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis, and Cynthia Nixon returning, except for Kim and her role of fan favorite girlfriend Samantha Jones.

The network’s chief content officer, Casey Bloys, reflected on Samantha’s exit, saying: ‘Just as in real life, people come into your life, people leave. Friendships fade and new friendships start.’

In 2019, Kim took a jab at SJP while confirming she would not be returning to the franchise.

Speaking with MailOnline, the beauty made light of her ongoing feud, even hinting the actress wasn’t a ‘good person’.

When asked if there was any chance she’d appear in another Sex and the City movie, she replied ‘Never. It’s a no from me,’ without any hesitation.

‘You learn lessons in life and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.’

The previous year, their icy relationship played out on social media after the death of Kim’s brother Chris.

When SJP sent her condolences online, Golden-Globe winner Kim thought the sentiment was disingenuous and posted: ‘My mom asked me today, ‘when will that Sarah Jessica Parker . . . leave you alone?’

‘Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.’

SJP, 56, has denied a feud, saying she had ‘never uttered an unkind, unsupportive, unfriendly word’.

Kim recently sparked speculation she was shading Sarah when she posted a video of herself with her Sensitive Skin co-star, a dog named Pixel.

‘When your co-star is a real dog,’ she captioned the video.

Fans didn’t miss a beat, as they swiftly flooded the comments to ask if she was ‘throwing shade’ following Kim’s recent refusal to resume her role as Samantha Jones in the SATC reboot.

Kim set her differences with SATC to the side last month when paying tribute to her former co-star Willie Garson, who passed at age 57 following a secret battle with pancreatic cancer.

‘Such sad news and a terribly sad loss to the SATC family. Our condolences and RIP dear Willie xo,’ she tweeted.
