Taylor Swift pulls her re-recorded version of Fearless from Grammy and CMA Awards consideration

Taylor Swift will not be submitting her re-recorded Fearless (Taylor’s Version) for Grammy and CMA Awards consideration.

The pop superstar, 31, re-recorded her 2008 second studio album after Scooter Braun purchased Big Machine Records which held the rights to her first six albums in 2019.

However, she has decided to pull the album released this year from awards contention, Billboard.com reported on Tuesday.

She will, however, be putting her ninth studio album with original tracks, Evermore, up for nomination in every eligible category.

In a statement to Billboard, a Republic Records representative said: ‘After careful consideration, Taylor Swift will not be submitting Fearless (Taylor’s Version) in any category at this year’s upcoming Grammy and CMA Awards.

‘Fearless has already won four Grammys including album of the year, as well as the CMA Award for album of the year in 2009/2010 and remains the most awarded country album of all time.’

In 2020, Swift released two new albums, Folklore and Evermore.

With Folklore, the hitmaker broke Whitney Houston’s longstanding record for having an album spend the most weeks at the number one position on the Billboard 200.

Folklore won Album Of The Year at the Grammys this past March.

The companion album Evermore, released in December 2020 is eligible for the 2022 Grammys.

Like Folklore, it was written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.

The release featured contributions from various other artists, including HAIM, Bon Iver, and The National, and Jack Antonoff also worked as a songwriter and producer.

In June, Swift announced that her hugely successful Red album is the next title on her back catalog that she is set to revisit.

‘This will be the first time you hear all 30 songs that were meant to go on Red. And hey, one of them is even ten minutes long,’ she tweeted, adding the new version is set to be released on November 19.

Swift has been re-recoding her old albums after Braun purchased her former record label for $300 million, and with it acquired the rights to her back catalogue.

Braun’s Ithaca Holdings then sold the catalogue to Shamrock Holdings.

After the purchase, Swift claimed she was never offered the chance to buy her own master recordings.

On her plans to re-record her records, she previously said: ‘It’s going to be fun, because it’ll feel like regaining a freedom and taking back what’s mine.

‘When I created [these songs], I didn’t know what they would grow up to be. Going back in and knowing that it meant something to people is actually a really beautiful way to celebrate what the fans have done for my music.”
