The Block’s Josh and Luke Packham found themselves at the centre of a cheating scandal when they got their hands on a leaked photo of the production schedule.

In an interview with The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, the twins, 27, revealed how they cope with the public scrutiny, including backlash from viewers on social media.

Luke said he goes by the mantra of not worrying ‘what others think of you’, while Josh revealed how he only uses social media ‘minimally’ as it’s just a ‘fake bubble’.

‘Don’t worry about what others think of you. It’s something very simple and it couldn’t be more relevant in the world we live in today,’ Luke told the publication.

‘People are so afraid to speak their beliefs or try something new out of fear they might be shut down. I’ve come to realise that as soon as you release yourself from what others think you will lead a more authentic and fulfilling life.’

Josh, who tells himself he’s going to have a great day each morning, also revealed how he switches social media off completely when working and uses it minimally.

With people often comparing their lives to others, Josh said he’s far happier when he lives in the moment as opposed to a ‘fake bubble that just isn’t reality’.

The former Love Island stars, who had ‘no renovation experience’ before joining the Nine show, told Daily Mail Australia this week they’d been typecast as the ‘naughty boys’ of the season, which they found ‘a little disappointing’.

While they accept they ‘did wrong’ by getting involved in the cheating scandal at the start of the season, they insist this one-sided portrayal doesn’t tell the full story.

‘With the whole scandal, obviously we did wrong, but obviously it was blown out of proportion, too,’ Josh began.

He stressed that he and Luke weren’t trying to hide from the scandal or excuse their bad behaviour – and neither were Tanya and Vito Guccione, the other team involved in the plot – but said producers were ‘only showing a slight angle of it’.

Had they shown footage of the many other lighthearted moments at Bronte Court, Luke added, the entire season would have had a whole different vibe.

He said viewers had been misled into believing the cheating scandal tore the entire cast apart and was the main focus on the building site.

But this wasn’t actually the case.

‘I feel a little bit disappointed. There were a lot of great moments and funny scenes that could have been aired but haven’t,’ Luke revealed.

He also said they’d been portrayed as habitual cheaters without the ‘context’ for their actions being shown, forcing them to explain themselves on social media instead.

‘[Starting with] the cheating scandal, they just stuck with that theme for us, as the naughty boys,’ Luke said.

‘If they showed us bending the rules, they never showed the context behind that.

‘We tried to explain our actions on social media that they haven’t explained on the show.’

While they feel their story has only been half told, the brothers accept that editing is a fact of life on reality TV and don’t hold a grudge against the producers.

‘At the end of the day, it’s a TV show and [we just have to] move on from it,’ said Luke.

‘We could have been given a completely different edit if that’s what they chose. We had a great relationship with all the tradies on our house and there were plenty of funny moments, but they didn’t want to show that.’

In one of the biggest scandals The Block has ever seen, Josh and Luke were accused early in the season of trying to obtain secret information that would put them at an advantage over their rivals.

At the time, host Scott Cam said he’d ‘never seen anything like this in any of the TV shows I have worked on over the years’.

The Packhams and the Gucciones became embroiled in the cheating plot after Tanya obtained a photo of the show’s production schedule and sent it to Luke.

She claims she was sent it by an ‘anonymous tradie’, but others suspect she snuck into Scott’s office, where the schedule was kept, and took the photo herself.

Regardless of how it unfolded, anyone who saw the photo would have had the advantage of being able to plan their specifications weeks in advance or pre-order something for a specific room.
