A bewildered Jesse, 33, wrapped his arms around Kirsty as he attempted to piece together what had just occurred.

‘Darling, what’s wrong? What’s wrong, darling? What’s happened, darling?’ an increasingly panicked Jesse asked her, becoming emotional himself.

‘Nan died,’ Kirsty sobbed, as Jesse hugged her tightly.

She later explained that her mother had called her to tell her that her beloved ‘Nan’ had ‘passed away’.

‘It’s just really hard to hear that she’s finally gone and not even get to say goodbye to her,’ she said, wiping tears away from her eyes.

‘I spoke to her on the phone, and she told me not to come home. She said she was going to hang in there and wait for me to come back.’

Jesse said that news of her death had come ‘out of the blue’, with the couple deciding to fly home to New South Wales to be with their family.

An emotional Jesse told their construction workers they’d be gone ‘for a day or two’, with the supportive crew telling them they had the situation ‘covered’.

‘I’m just devastated that she didn’t get to see us, ’cause she was just so looking forward to this,’ added Kirsty.

The Block continues Wednesday at 7.30pm on Channel Nine
