    Thirteen Lives FIRST LOOK: Director Ron Howard shares a glimpse from the set of his new movie based on the Thai cave rescue operation

    Hollywood director Ron Howard has shared a first-look video from the set of his new movie Thirteen Lives, based on the 2018 Thai cave rescue.

    In the footage, the 67-year-old filmmaker is seen standing in a large cave-like set on Queensland’s Gold Coast.

    The film stars the likes of Colin Farrell and Joel Edgerton.

    In the video, Ron outlined how he’s re-partnered with Impact Australia – an Australian screenwriting network for aspiring writers.    

    ‘I am incredibly excited to announce that Impact Australia will be coming back this fall,’ he said. ‘Applications are now open.’

    ‘We really want to encourage any and all Australian-based writers of all experience levels and backgrounds to apply,’ he added.

    ‘Our team can’t wait to come to Melbourne and run the program in person, this September to October,’ Ron continued.

    He then referred listeners to Impact Australia’s website for applications and further details.

    ‘I can’t wait to read your applications,’ he said. ‘And please spread the word to any and all inspiring screenwriters and storytellers you know.’

    Thirteen Lives tells the story of the 2018 rescue of a junior football team and their coach in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand.

    Colin Farrell, Viggo Mortensen and Joel Edgerton will be appearing in the film. 

    The movie is one of several major productions in Queensland, alongside Ticket to Paradise, Elvis, Escape from Spiderhead and Amazon series The Wilds
