Unai Emery details Newcastle talks and hints he will quit Villarreal despite 'no offer'

Unai Emery has offered Newcastle supporters hope he is on his way to Tyneside after confirming talks with the Magpies. The Spaniard was speaking after what could turn out to be his final game in charge of Villarreal as his side beat Young Boys 2-0 in Champions League action.

Ahead of the game, reports emerged that Emery was set to take charge of Newcastle later this week ahead of Saturday’s clash with Brighton.

Villarreal were rightly incensed as the board reiterated that Emery was tied down to a contract with the Spanish club.

Now Emery has opened up on the situation and refused to rule out a departure.

“We play against Getafe on Sunday, this victory will help us,” he said.

“There has been an interest from Newcastle, that is all. No offer yet, which will have to be to me and to the club. There is nothing else. Before saying yes or not, I will talk to club.

“I have not said ‘no’ to Newcastle… If this gets confirmed I will talk to Villarreal directors about it… I can’t add anything else…

“I am thankful to Villarreal. I have spoken to Fernando Roig (chairman) and told him that there is interest, but no offer yet.”

Villareal president Roig also confirmed that he is yet to hear anything from Emery or Newcastle.

“I know absolutely nothing. No one has said anything to us. No communication whatsoever,” he said.
