Tick, Tick… Boom! is based on the autobiographical musical of the same name, which was written by the late playwright Jonathan Larson, who is best known as the creator of Rent.

Development on the feature was first announced in 2018 when it was reported by Deadline that Miranda would helm the upcoming feature.
The movie’s script was written by Tony-winning writer Steven Levenson, who is best known for his work on the musical Dear Evan Hansen.

A couple of months later Vanessa revealed to Entertainment Tonight that in true pandemic style she and Cole were first introduced over Zoom.
‘Me and Cole met on a Zoom meditation group. Very random, yes,’ said Vanessa who shot to fame in High School Musical.
‘He’s just kind of perfect for me. I am [happy]. I really am. I think that it’s also so important to stay grateful for everything that you have in life,’ she spilled.
