    • Harry Potter Box office sales at $9,198,243,071 to date – will the new movie break the $10bn barrier?

With Harry Potter box office sales reaching $9,198,243,071 to date, will the latest instalment of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore help it to breach the $10 billion mark?

The studio is hoping that the new movie will bring the fans back and although its setbacks with having to replace Johnny Depp during the Fantastic Beasts series, both fans and studio have some hope restored with Mads Mikkelsen taking on the role as Grindelwald.

PartyCasino has investigated the spend behind the Harry Potter movies, including the Worldwide Box Office takings, noting that despite a 60% increase in production spend on Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the Worldwide Box Office takings amounted to under half of the final Harry Potter film. In fact, the last film in 2018, had the lowest opening weekend of all the previous movies in the series at just $62,163,104.

The entertainment and gaming site also released new insights to where the interest for the franchise has been the highest per country in an interactive fan’s world map.

With the release of Fantastic Beasts: Secrets of Dumbledore released on 8th April and most likely with a budget of $200 million, will the latest instalment rekindle the wizarding wonder or is the magic truly dying for the franchise? Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince had by far the biggest production cost out of the Harry Potter-movies ($250,000,000). The box office takings where however less than the previous movie in the series, and online activity measured in searches for the movie, dropped in countries such as UK and Canada, that always had historically high search volumes.

With J.K. Rowling likely to cash in regardless of its’ success, now worth an estimated $1 billion, and the highest net worth of any Harry Potter star, will the 25-year anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, break the spell and restore the magic to the series.
