Woke insanity! £26,000 a year St Paul’s Girls’ School ditches ‘binary’ head girl title

The head girl of St Paul’s Girls’ School will be known as the head of school from the next academic year in a bid to make it more inclusive. However, in a move branded “laughably hypocritical”, the school said that it wouldn’t be removing “girls” from its name.

Former GMB presenter Piers Morgan tweeted: “St Paul’s Girls’ School is ditching the role of “Head Girl” because it is too “binary” despite 99 percent of its pupils identifying as “girls”.

“However, it will continue calling itself St Paul’s Girls’ School.

“Woke insanity at its most laughably hypocritical.”

Founded in 1904, the leading private school costs £26,000 a year and counts Rosalind Franklin, Dame Kate Bingham, Emily Mortimer and Rachel Weisz as its alumni.

“How can you be a single-sex school that exists to empower girls to do well and at the same time support girls to identify out of being a girl?

“The school is trying to do the right thing but the problem is they are being badly advised.

“Why would parents want to send their daughters to a school where girls are not happy to be girls?”

In a statement, the school said that the main driver behind the change came because senior pupils considered themselves young women rather than “girls”.

Although they added that the “binary connotations” of the title were a factor in the decision.

However, it denied that, by the same logic, it should also change the school’s name.

Out of the school’s 778 pupils around seven identified as non-binary requesting that the school refer to them as they or them.

Senior pupils felt that the gender-neutral title was “more modern, age-appropriate and inclusive”.

The move was “confirming, not denying, our ethos and traditions”, the school said.

However, the news was slammed by many.

One Twitter user wrote: “Will St Paul’s Girls’ School be changing its admission policy to accept boys who identify as girls going forward?

Another said: “It’s literally called St Paul’s Girls School. Who did they expect to be going there? If one of them identified as a boy would they still teach them?”

Meanwhile, Stephanie Davies-Arai, founder of the campaign group Transgender Trend, said: “It’s a damaging message for the majority in order to protect the minority”.

In other news, staff were told during a training session that there were at least “150 gender identities”.
