‘Works every time’: Mrs Hinch fan shares how to get rid of fruit flies after home invasion

Fruit flies are known for their ability to reproduce rapidly, making them very hard to get rid of. They tend to develop in warm, moist areas such as the kitchen, where fruits and vegetables may be. How can you get rid of them?

Another woman, Tasha Lovell, said: “You need a cup and some cling film. You can be as creative as you like with what you put in there, honey, water, bit of banana I have found to work really well.

“They crawl in and then get stuck so they don’t go on your fruit.”

The insects are also attracted to sweet smelling scents, such as banana, which would help to attract them anyway from other foods.

One person, Charlie Davidson, commented: “Yes! They’re everywhere…I put a cup of vinegar with cling film with little holes over the top. That catches a lot of them but I find they’re still everywhere.”

One person, Charlotte Cotter, recommended using apple cider vinegar to help attract the pests.

Apple cider vinegar has a strong but sweet scent that helps attract the fruit flies into the trap because they think it’s overly ripe fruit.

However, one woman explained that using apple cider vinegar didn’t completely get rid of the problem.

Joanna Guthrie wrote: “Last year I had them in the bathroom and kitchen, tried cups of apple cider vinegar covered with cling film but didn’t get them all away.

“I ended up closing the doors and spraying the place with fly spray. That worked!”
