The prominent pro-Unionist Scot slammed a reader’s letter which said that Westminster would “breach” international law if it failed to continue paying people’s state pensions if Scotland left the UK.
The GB News chairman responded to a picture of the comment on Twitter and instantly silenced the nationalists who claimed the rumours were just Project Fear.
He wrote: “So if England was to leave the UK, would Scotland, Wales and NI continue to pay English pensions?”
This provoked a furious reaction from one Scottish nationalist.
Calling himself Dave_DMan, he wrote: “It’s the same (as moving abroad) – Anyone who leaves the UK and has paid NI has pension credits the UK is liable to pay.
“Honestly (I’m) surprised a so-called journalist like Andrew does not know this.”

The online spat was triggered by a letter from Ron Campbell from Aberdeen.
He claimed that rumours that the UK Government would stop paying state pensions to people living in an independent Scotland were unfounded.
He added: “While Westminster has been shown to have a blase attitude to international law, even they would not go down the road of non-payment of duly earned pensions.
“Project Fear appears to being ramped up.
“But then, we’ve heard it all before.”
Mr Neil – an outspoken critic of the SNP – wasn’t the only one to cast doubts on Mr Campbell’s claims.
Another Twitter user said: “Just need to look at the precedent when the Irish Free State was formed in 1922.
“Responsibility for paying pensions transferred from London to Dublin.
“I think I’m right in saying Irish pensions didn’t keep up their value with UK ones.”
Another said: “They don’t understand how the state pension works.
“You don’t pay ‘into’ a state pension.
“Your pension part of NI (National Insurance) pays the pension of existing pensions.
“When you retire, the NI of the workers then pay yours.
“So if Scotland does get independence the UK will have no duty to pay.”
