'You bagged the gorilla': Meghan slammed for referring to 'my husband' in new podcast

Meghan Markle has been criticised for repeatedly referring to Prince Harry as her “husband” in the latest episode of her podcast. The couple married in 2018 but this didn’t stop American journalist Megyn Kelly from accusing the Duchess of doing it for attention.

Ms Kelly said: “We get it, you bagged the gorilla, congratulations. You bagged the big bear, you want us to know. We know.”

The criticism came after the release of the latest episode of Meghan Markle’s podcast, Archetypes.

When asked about Prince Harry’s parenting skills, Meghan said: “Oh, my husband? Oh, he’s great!”

On the family’s daily routine, she added: “But, for me, it’s monitors on for the kids to hear them, always up with Lili, get her downstairs, then a half hour later, Archie’s up.”

She then “start[s] doing his lunchbox right before he’s up while I have her, getting her a little nibble, my husband’s helping me get him downstairs”.

During Ms Kelly’s wide ranging conversation with journalist Christopher Anderson, who is promoting The King: The Life of Charles III, the pair also questioned Meghan’s claim that she had never looked up her husband online.

“I never looked up my husband online, I just didn’t feel the need to because everything that I needed to know, he was sharing with me – or everything we thought I needed to know, he was telling me,” Meghan told Oprah Winfrey during their 2021 bombshell interview.

Mr Anderson said: “She, like every other young woman that age, they were all in love with [the Royals]. There are pictures of her at the gates of Buckingham Palace when she was a teenager.”

Ms Kelly, 51, added: “For my age it was JFK junior, for her age it was Prince Harry. Let’s get real.”

She also accused Meghan and Harry of “ripping” on the Royal Family, who she claims made the pair famous. Meghan was a relatively high profile actress on the hit TV series Suits before she met Harry.

Ms Kelly said: “There seems to be no limit to their appetite for ripping on the royals to whom they literally owe all of their fame.”

She added: “Rather than being appreciative of the many gifts that they had both received, thanks to the British people and in her case also thanks to the American people, they went out there and started whining about their lives.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down as working royals in 2020.

They now live in Montecito, California with their son Archie, three, and daughter, Lilibet, one.
