Swimming legend Ian Thorpe was left red-faced on the launch of Celebrity MasterChef Australia on Sunday, after his secret cooking past was exposed.

During the episode, the 38-year-old had confidently revealed he was going to be ‘very competitive’ in the contest, after winning five gold medals at the Olympics.

But just seconds later, judge Jock Zonfrillo pointed out that Ian’s talents aren’t only in the swimming pool – alerting the other contestants that he is actually the author of a cook book.

‘Correct me if I’m wrong, but you’ve got your own cook book, don’t you?’ Jock said, causing the entire room to gasp in shock.

After Ian cheekily smiled and confirmed the news, Offspring actor Matt Le Nevez jokingly shouted: ‘Where are the producers! Hang on a minute!’

He then signalled a time-out with his hands, while designer Collette Dinnigan’s jaw dropped in surprise.

Indeed, the swimmer doesn’t just have one cook book, but two under his belt.

His first book, Cook For Your Life, was published in 2011. A second, titled Eat Well Now,  was later released in 2016.

A synopsis for the first book reads: ‘…Now that he no longer swims competitively or trains for hours, he has been able to apply all that he has learned to his diet and health.’

It would mean that Ian has certainly got the edge when it comes to the competition, alongside famous chef Gordon Ramsay’s younger daughter, Tilly.

Ian is competing in the new season amongst the likes of Chrissie Swan, Rebecca Gibney, Dami Im and Nick Riewoldt.
