Andrew Allison of the Freedom Association was invited to TalkRADIO to discuss council decisions to ban outdoor smoking in some city and town areas. But the conversation quickly moved to Disney’s decision to erase Cruella de Vil’s long cigarette holder in their latest prequel film in an attempt to discourage smoking. But Mr Allison found the decision ridiculous as he explained many kids do not want to be the anti-dalmatian evil villain anyway.
Discussing the issue on his show, Kevin O’Sullivan asked Mr Allison his thoughts on public smoking.
He asked: “What do you think of the Disney studio taking this well-known villain, Cruella de Vil, and removing her signature cigarette holder?
“I mean that is part of her evilness, it seems as if baddies are not even allowed to smoke.”
Mr Allison responded: “Well it’s actually pathetic really, she is a baddie who creates a lot of cigarette smoke around them.

“Does that really want to encourage children to smoke?
“[Are kids saying] I want to be Cruella de Vil and start stealing dogs?
“I mean it’s just a nonsense but it’s all part of a policy that we have now seen where smoking cannot be seen to happen.”
Disney banned smoking on-screen several years ago for any film which was considered to be “family-friendly”.
Northumberland, Durham, North Tyneside, Newcastle and Manchester has banned smoking near venues that have outdoor seating.
Oxfordshire is also aiming to be smoke-free by 2025 by creating smoke-free environments through bans or limited times people can smoke outdoors.
An Oxfordshire Council spokesperson said: “Oxfordshire has set itself an ambitious aim to be smoke-free by 2025.
“Creating healthy, smoke-free environments, including considering proposals for hospitality outdoor seating to be 100 per cent smoke-free, is just one small part of a wider range of county-wide plans.”
