The DVSA first introduced the six-month extension to ensure people could carry on with essential travel during the pandemic.
It was also used to ensure vital services could continue, people could get access to food and medicines and key workers could travel to work.
Mr Barbera said the scheme was mostly a good thing for consumers who did not need to worry about anything,
However, he said the Government introduced the scheme as a “knee jerk reaction” and dubbed it a “bonkers idea”.
