Alan Carr reveals he quit booze to support alcoholic husband Paul through recovery

Alan Carr has revealed he takes months off the booze to help hubby Paul Drayton battle his alcohol addiction.

Paul is currently getting help from professionals after falling off the wagon over the summer and injuring his face.

And the Chatty Man, 45, revealed he had six months off recently that spanned Christmas and New Year but he joked: ‘It was the worst f****ing Christmas I’ve ever had. And my mother didn’t help by offering him a Bailey’s and going: ‘It’s only Bailey’s – what’s the worst that can happen.’

Alan revealed he ended up ferrying drunk family and friends around in his home town of Northampton and he added: ‘I walked into a pub and the DJ clocked me and shouted over the mic ‘Alan Carr everyone, Northampton’s favourite son’. I told him I wasn’t even my father’s favourite son.’

And he told an audience in Leeds watching his stand-up routine: ‘Paul is getting the help he needs.’

Paul, 50, once revealed he went 650 days without having a drink in his ongoing battle with the bottle.

But Alan later told how lockdown had tested Paul’s resolve.

And succumbed to his demons in August and prompted worry from fans and pals when he posted a snap of himself with a shiner on social media.

He later clarified the situation by revealing that he’d punched himself in the face during a bender and confirmed that the comic had not laid a finger on him.

Last year he proudly posted about his alcohol-free landmark.

He wrote: ‘650 DAYS!!! It’s at times like these we all like to have a drink! Believe me I’m really tempted to have a few.

But a year ago Alan revealed Paul’s continuing fight to stay sober.

They married in 2018 and Paul went to rehab in the same year to get sober.

Alan said: ‘It’s been tough for Paul during lockdown. He’s been saying, ‘Oh, shall we get a bottle?’ and I say, ‘No, we’re not getting any rosé wine in’.

‘He’s been so good and I’m so proud of him.’
