Andy Murray copies Nick Kyrgios as he pulls out cheeky underarm serve at Indian Wells

Andy Murray entertained the crowd in Indian Wells when he hit an underarm serve for the first time in his career during his second-round match. Having lost the first set after leading by a break, the former world No 1 managed to hold for a 2-1 lead on serve when he recreated Nick Kyrgios’ trademark shot in style, managing to ace 30th seed Alcaraz with the cheeky shot.

Murray got off to a strong start when he broke the 18-year-old at the first time of asking, though the young Spaniard was able to get back on serve later in the opening set.

After holding match points at 5-4 on Alcaraz’s serve, the three-time Grand Slam champion was unable to capitalise and found himself broken in the very next game, as the 30th seed in Indian Wells then held to take the opening set 7-5.

In true Murray fashion, the former world No 1 responded and held his nerve in the second set, resetting as he managed to win his opening service game of the second set.

After looking like he was in some trouble while serving at 1-1, the 34-year-old looked to fellow ATP player and one of his friends on tour – Nick Kyrgios – for inspiration to close the game out.
