‘Why is everyone so much harder on people with a platform?’ Fitness influencer Ashy Bines responds to trolls after reading mean comments about herself on a ‘hate’ forum

Fitness influencer Ashy Bines has responded to trolls in a lengthy video after discovering her name on a ‘hate’ forum.

On Monday, the 32-year-old took to Instagram to question those who had commented on the page, saying she was ‘genuinely struggling to understand’ why someone would follow her while disliking her so much.

Ashy, who has one million Instagram followers, later said she wondered why ‘everyone is so much harder on people with a platform’, saying she believes ‘everyone is equal whether we have ‘5,000, 500,000 or five million followers’.

Discussing the forum, she began: ‘There’s hundreds of comments by these women, making comments about who they hate, why they hate them, etcetera etcetera.

‘Of course my name popped up, which it does not bother me at all. I’m so past the point of trying to please everyone.

‘The comments about me were things from my past, even things I was doing on the weekend – what me and my friends were wearing, what we were doing, just saying how annoying I am.’

She then left a question box on a following slide, saying she wanted to ‘genuinely understand’ why people who hate someone ‘still feel the need to watch what they’re doing’.

Defence:'People really struggle to forget that you grow up and make mistakes, and they've attacked what you've said that's wrong and they can't detach from it,' the influencer said

Ashy shared the results later that evening, saying the responses had ‘opened up her mind’ and that there was ‘no judgement’ around what anyone had said.

The responses included jealousy, out of curiosity, a distraction from their own pain, and a ‘need to put someone else down to make them feel better about their flaws and struggles’.

She also said one follower admitted Ashy herself had once said something they didn’t agree with, causing them to unfollow her.

Ashy was quick to defend herself, saying: ‘People really struggle to forget that you grow up and make mistakes, and they’ve attacked what you’ve said that’s wrong and they can’t detach from it.’

She went on to ask how people react when family members make a mistake, saying ‘Do you hold that against them for the rest of their lives?’

Poignant: 'Words have so much power in a negative and positive way. We get to choose what we put into the universe. They don't know the effect of their words,' she concluded

‘Probably not. But why do we do that to people online? Why is everyone so much harder on people with a platform. I think at the end of the day we’re all equal.

‘You’re just a human doing the best damn job that you can. We need to lower the expectations. Everyone makes mistakes.’

When asked if she ‘hated’ the trolls in the forum, Ashy responded: ‘I don’t know them to hate them. What I do know is that hurt people hurt people, and healed people heal people.
