Barcelona set sights on fifth transfer 'with two stars lined up' for Valencia swap deal

Barcelona are looking to use their huge squad to their advantage by using two players in a swap deal with Valencia for Jose Gaya. If the left-back makes the move, that would be the fifth arrival at the Nou Camp this summer already in the transfer window.

Barcelona are prepared to throw two players into a deal that would bring Gaya to the club.

New president Joan Laporta has set about building a new-look team despite Los Cules’ money worries.

Barca are in deep trouble with the banks, even before the Covid crisis, which has only made their problems worse.

With Lionel Messi’s contract still needing to be ironed out, they could be forgiven for taking a more frugal approach in the transfer window.

“The market is the same and only player swaps will happen, we have players that we cannot from,” Laporta said.

That has not stopped the club from signing players, though, and Laporta already has his sights set on number five.

Memphis Depay, Eric Garcia, Sergio Aguero and Emerson Royal have already joined but Barcelona want Valencia left-back Gaya to join too.

They join an already inflated squad and two of them are set to be used in a deal to prise the left-back away from the Mestella.

According to RAC1, Barca are prepared to hand Valencia both Martin Braithwaite and Carlos Alena to convince them to part ways with Gaya.

The Spain international is the top target at the Nou Camp now as they look at the long-term replacement for Jordi Alba.

The defender is still first choice for club and country but has recently turned 32 and Koeman is aware the usually gutsy player cannot go on forever, while his own future is up in the air amid links to Inter Milan.

Both Braithwaite and Alena could prove pivotal to Valencia, who are desperate for a striker and a midfielder with an eye for a pass.
