‘Cannot study out of fear!’ Taliban hides female university students behind curtains

    Upsetting pictures have been released from an Afghan university, showing women hiding behind a curtain. The photos were reportedly taken at Ibn-e Sina University in Kabul. Women attending private Afghan universities are now required by the Taliban to wear an abaya robe and niqab covering their face.

    At universities the Taliban have suggested female students should only be taught by women and if not then “old men” of good character could teach them.

    A decree issued by the militant group states: “Universities are required to recruit female teachers for female students based on their facilities.”

    Aaina, an Afghan university student spoke about the situation with female students being required to enter the university in separate entrances to men.

    She told i News: “I went to university today, but [out of] 50 students in a class, only three came.

    “I am very upset. Our class is only for girls… but our entrance was separate [to male students].

    “We entered the university in fear and shivering.

    “We were afraid that the Taliban might come to our university. We returned home soon and did not even study.

    “The right to education [has been] taken away from us girls. Our only place [now] is at home. Girls cannot go [to study] out of fear.”

    Last week according to local reports a pregnant policewoman was shot dead by the Taliban, the group deny they have anything to do with her death.

    Spokesman for the Taliban Zabiullah Mujaheed said: “We are aware of the incident and I am confirming that the Taliban have not killed her, our investigation is ongoing.”

    BBC News reported Banu Negar was killed in front of her husband and children.
