Cher revealed she is interested in casting a newcomer to portray her in Universal’s upcoming biopic about her meteoric rise to superstardom.

While speaking about the casting, the 75-year-old singer revealed she is excited about the opportunity to find someone unknown to serve as the film’s leading lady.

‘We were talking about it yesterday, and we’re just trying to think of [actors],’ she told Variety. ‘I said, ‘I don’t think we know her yet.’

Speaking of producers Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman as well as writer Eric Roth, the performer said she believes her input will be heard.

‘I know the people so I’m sure they’ll…listen to things I have to say. But it doesn’t mean I’m going to get the final cut,’ Cher said of not wanting an established actress to bring her life to the screen.

She also spoke about her own acting career and admitted to initially turning down her starring role in Mamma Mia’s sequel as Meryl Streep’s mother.

Her former manager and then-Universal boss Ron Meyer, however, stepped in and told her: ‘You’re doing ‘Mamma Mia 2’ then ‘hung up’ on her.

Before shooting, she told the outlet she was ‘frightened’ and confessed she is ‘not one of those people with a lot of confidence.’

In May, Cher announced via Twitter that Universal would be behind the forthcoming biopic.

She also spoke about her own acting career and admitted to initially turning down her starring role in Mamma Mia's sequel as Meryl Streep's mother (seen in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again on the far right)

‘FORREST GUMP, A STAR IS BORN, SUSPECT, TO NAME A FEW OF [his] FILMS,’ she concluded.

Aside from revealing the production company, producers and writer behind her forthcoming biopic, Cher did not give any more details pertaining to the production schedule or who would be portraying her.

After making her big announcement, Cher was inundated with excited support from her devoted fanbase, with many tweeting out heart emojis.

‘I have been waiting for this since I was 15! It only took 50 years! When will it be done?’ wrote one eager Twitter user, to which Cher replied: ‘I Had More life to Live.’

Many used Cher’s Twitter announcement as a means to share their favorite glamour shots of the star alongside their supportive tweets.

With Cher’s love life presumed to play out on screen, many wondered who would be portraying the Dark Lady singer’s late ex husband Sonny Bono.

The former couple, who had their own hit variety show The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, were romantically linked from 1964 to their separation in 1975.

‘Ha! I was just wondering who will play #Sonny? #sonnyandcher,’ wrote on curious fan of the duo, along with a gif of the pair snagged from an episode of the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour.

The California-born superstar first rose to fame in 1965 as one half of the folk group Sonny & Cher, who released their hit single I Got You Babe in July of that year.

While continuing to dominate the music charts with her husband, Cher eagerly pursued a solo career.

This would be the first of many hit songs – and albums – for Cher, who would go on to divorce Bono in 1975 and, eventually, expand her stardom into the world of film and stage.

Most famously, Cher won the Academy Award for Best Actress in 1988 for her role as Italian-American widow Loretta in the 1987 rom-com Moonstruck.

Although her forthcoming biopic may be at the forefront of her mind, Cher has been passionately plugging her recently released film Kaavan, The World’s Loneliest Elephant, which she produced for the Smithsonian Channel.
