With pressure from the international community mounting, the world’s biggest polluter has vowed to slash its planet-warming carbon emissions by 2030. Xie Zhenhua, China’s special envoy on climate, said on Tuesday the nation is additionally aiming to hit net zero emissions but will do so in its own time frame. As world leaders prepare to attend the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow next month, countries like the UK and US have committed to reaching net zero targets by no later than 2050.
China, however, has said it has implemented measures to hit net zero by no later than 2060.
Earlier this year it was revealed China is emitting more greenhouse gasses than the entire developed world combined.
According to research by the Rhodium Group, China accounted for about 27 percent of the global greenhouse output.
Scientists have, consequently, warned any real efforts to stop global warming demand proactive measures from China.

UK’s climate envoy and COP26 president Alok Sharma travelled to China early in September to put more pressure on the Communist regime.
The visit followed a disastrous trip by the US’s John Kerry, who travelled some 15,000 miles only to be met with a video conference call from his Chinese counterpart.
Also speaking at the conference on Tuesday, China’s Minister of ecology and environment, Zhao Yingmin, also took a swipe at the UK’s.
When challenged by Sky News, Mr Zhao appeared to question the UK’s target of cutting carbon emissions by 68 percent by 2030 on the way to reaching net zero by 2050.
He said: “China… always honours its words by real deeds so that we can even come better than what we already promised.”
He added: “We simply hope that all developed countries can do the same by honouring words with actual actions.”
According to the Minister, China will “make its best efforts” to meet its target climates considering the enormity of the task ahead and admitted China’s large share of the global greenhouse emissions.
He said: “This is the best possible effort we can make, given the current development stage and the capacity of China.”
