Corey’s father Stefan Brent, told him: ‘I should be playing golf today. Instead I’m hiding in the back of a van trying to sneak you out of the country to save your skin yet again.

‘If this actually works and you get away. And actually become a footballer in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty, I want an Aston Martin and a beach house.’

However, the van came to a stop before Stefan could continue with his demands and the doors were opened to reveal they were at Weatherfield Police Station.

As he was arrested, a detective told Corey: ‘Corey Brent I’m arresting you on suspicion of the murder of Sebastian Franklin.

‘You do not have to say anything but it may harm your defence if you fail to mention when questioned something you later rely on in court. Anything you do say may be given in evidence.’

As he was led into the police station Corey’s mother Abi winked at him, prompting viewers to take to Twitter to express their delight at the scene.

After weeks of speculation around who had delivered the fatal blow that caused Seb’s death, it was finally confirmed that Corey was the man responsible.

It was already known that Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) was present at the time of the attack and that she had tormented the couple, but the flashback scenes revealed she did not cause Seb’s death.

Distressing scenes in the flashback episode showed Seb being beaten and kicked, with him laying unconscious on the floor and covered in blood.

Hate crime: The beating originally played out on the ITV soap earlier in the year, with Kelly Neelan (Millie Gibson) and Corey Brent (Maximus Evans) going to court following Seb's death

Kelly attempted to stop Corey from beating Seb and screamed as she tried to pull him away.

But Corey pushed Kelly off him as he continued to kick Seb while he was on the ground.

Seb’s girlfriend Nina fled over a wall but was targeted by Eli (Liam Scholes) and another teen who were seen stamping on her.

The couple were left to die with their attackers running from the scene without calling for help.

After gaining consciousness, Seb called for an ambulance as he told Nina she would be alright while she lay unconscious in front of him.

Struggling to breathe, he called the emergency services before dropping the phone on the ground after dragging himself to Nina’s side.

It was already known that Nina survived the attack and that Seb died in hospital.

Coronation Street continues on ITV1 on Monday at 7.30pm.
