Police investigate cast of new series Byron Baes amid reports they broke public health orders and held a house party despite strict COVID restrictions

Stars of the new series Byron Baes have prompted a police investigation amid allegations they breached public health orders.

According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald on Tuesday, Byron Bay and Tweed Police are investigating a recent party held at a Byron Bay home.

Under current statewide COVID restrictions, only five people are able to visit a home at any one time in regional NSW.

It’s believed the party was held at the home of former Bachelorette star Nathan Favro, who features in the upcoming Byron Baes.

Neighbours and other community members filed multiple complaints to Crime Stoppers, after hearing noise and seeing large groups entering the premises.

Social media followers also became aware of the party after fellow cast member Elle Watson shared photos and videos on her Instagram page.

Elle captioned the posts with ‘dinner party for my faves at mi casa’, and tagged 15 others in the photos.

Netflix – the streaming giant which is producing Byron Baes – was keen to distance itself from the incident, telling The Sydney Morning Herald that filming had already wrapped on the series.

‘The production has no knowledge of the event to which you refer nor was it in any way associated with it,’ added co-producer Eureka Productions.

Daily Mail Australia has reached out to a representative for both Nathan and Elle for comment.

The cast of Byron Baes seems to have done little to endear themselves to the Byron community, with locals furious about the production of the show.

Earlier this year, a handful of Byron locals paddled out into the ocean to protest the show, while others stood by with placards that read ‘give Netflix the flick’ and ‘consult traditional owners’.

Ben Gordon, owner of The Byron Bay General Store, led calls to snub production and asked other local businesses to do the same.

‘They’ve simply turned up unannounced and they are proposing to drag our name through the mud, and make millions of dollars without offering anything back to the community,’ he told Today.

Nick O’Donnell, Netflix’s director of public policy, was even forced to travel to the NSW coastal town ‘for crisis talks with stakeholders’ amid growing backlash.
