Emmerdale horror as 50th anniversary month 'ends on really big bang'

Emmerdale officially turns 50 on October 16 and the ITV soap’s writers and producers have been working on explosive anniversary storylines for the past year. Emmerdale viewers know a windstorm is set to leave a trail of destruction across the Yorkshire Dales in a matter of weeks, but executive producer Jane Hudson has teased more drama is due to unfold at the end of the month too.

So far, it has been revealed Chas Dingle (played by Lucy Pargeter) continues her secret affair with Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) in the wake of her mother Faith Dingle’s (Sally Dexter) death.

Meanwhile, Kim Tate (Claire King) is due to marry the loveable Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) but his former flame Harriet Finch (Katherine Dow Blyton) will try and convince him not to tie the knot with the village businesswoman.

Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) may also chase vicar Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) out of the village after he learns someone has complained to the Bishop about him.

On top of all of this, a ferocious storm will rip through the village, leaving a plethora of characters in jeopardy.

Producer Jane opened up on the upcoming anniversary storylines with Express.co.uk and other media earlier this week.

While she did not want to give away too many spoilers about plots which will unfold in the coming weeks, she teased: “It is a rollercoaster of emotion and there is a visual input which will blow more than your socks off, put it that way.”

“There are deaths, there’s destruction, but there’s also real moments of intimacy, heartbreak and love,” Jane hinted.

“We are going to see our characters tested, in not just their physical strength but their emotional strength as well.

Reflecting on pitching the idea of a deadly storm to her colleagues, Jane said: “I was quite conscious of eye rolls because we have done a storm before, we have done every story before, so it is always about how we make this storyline feel different, and bigger and better.

“I think what was really important for us when we started talking about our 50th, which was well over a year ago, was our beautiful village and we wanted to show off our landscapes, our farms, our scenery.

“I was really determined that we would have a storm in the daylight as I think it is quite easy when you do something special to go dark and gloomy but then you can’t see what makes it so special.
